I agree, Obama's speech exudes precautionary about media.

He's an impressive orator. And I think his hope policy fills in the emotional void of this country. Apathy may be one of the main problems of our generation, of our country right now.whhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08469831191095867255noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6281250522806750026.post-45083942664376964072008-04-01T05:13:00.000-07:002008-04-01T05:13:00.000-07:00Thanks for writing this post! You make a lot of great points.

I would add that Obama's speech was as much about the media as it was about race. I felt like he was trying to tell the media to back off, quit making predictions based on race, quit promoting the latest scandal as a way to distract voters from more important issues.

I also think think Obama crafted his speech with a broad audience in mind, an audience who maybe doesn't think critically about race all that much. I was impressed that he didn't 'talk down,' that he discussed relatively complex ideas rather than simply condemning Rev. Wright. (Which I would guess many politicians would have done.)

Could he have addressed the problems of race in a more diverse and broadminded manner? Absolutely. (I especially liked your points about immigration and demonizing the 'foreign' workers who steal American jobs.) Did he give an impressive speech, given the circumstances? I think so. He inspired me, for better or for worse.allihttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16778532574682387775noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6281250522806750026.post-31843186937047336762008-03-29T10:10:00.000-07:002008-03-29T10:10:00.000-07:00i just read this interesting response to the Obama...i just read this interesting response to the Obama speech on race.
